Omnimark – C-PVC Reuse Challenge

Omnimark’s bold initiative confronts one of the signage industry’s toughest challenges: laying the groundwork for a circular future where contaminated PVC no longer goes to waste.

Category: Circularity and Waste

Omnimark has taken the lead in addressing a major sustainability issue within the signage and carwrap industry: recycling PVC-based self-adhesive films. Currently, these materials end up in incinerators or landfills, as there’s no existing method to recycle contaminated PVC (C-PVC). That is, film waste mixed with adhesive.

Environmental impact

Together with the Circular Plastic Alliance, Omnimark is working to tackle both technical and logistical challenges of recycling C-PVC. While no direct results have been achieved yet, the project lays critical groundwork for reducing the carbon footprint of PVC films through future reuse. Early efforts include national data analysis, supply chain mapping, and proposals for centralized waste collection systems.

Societal impact

While not directly impacting individuals yet, this project could transform industry practices by shifting attitudes across manufacturers, signmakers, and end-users. A potential future outcome is a mandatory disposal fee for PVC films, encouraging more responsible use and end-of-life processing across the sector.

We applaud Omnimark for tackling an “impossible” problem and taking bold initiative to push for circular innovation where none yet exists. These early steps are essential to spark long-term change in the signage industry.
